Do you have a sports injury or orthopedic issue? Or are you looking to prevent injury and improve performance? Or do you have a brain injury such as stroke, Parkinson's, or concussion? Acupuncture is a safe, natural, effective way to address most musculoskeletal and neurological issues.
You need an experienced practitioner you can trust, because with acupuncture, there's simply no substitute for experience. John has been practicing acupuncture since 2005.
Upstate Acupuncture serves the Millbrook area from our studio inside of Upstate Movement & Wellness.
Do you have a medical condition that benefits from hands-on therapy? John specializes in condition-specific, goal-oriented massage and bodywork. No "spa massage" or "routines" here. With over 25 years of practicing and teaching manual therapies, John can accomplish a lot just by focussing specifically on what you come in for. Every session with John is unique and focussed on your needs and priorities.
Our online scheduling lets you quickly and easily make appointments, change appointments, and access documents. If you are a caregiver, you will appreciate the ability to manage appointments for your child, spouse, parent, or employer while they will maintain control over their private information.
Housecalls are available for acupuncture and massage both. Treating multiple patients is our speciality: this could be back-to-back massage appointments or simultaneous acupuncture appointments. Call or text prior to scheduling to confirm we travel to your location and for more details.
John’s journey into acupuncture and Chinese medicine began during a semester abroad at Chengdu University in China. Upon his return, he found inspiration in his percussion teacher, jazz icon Milford Graves, to pursue acupuncture as a practice.
In 1995, he was first introduced to Gyrotonic, a movement practice deeply influenced by martial arts and swimming—two disciplines that have shaped his personal approach to movement. Driven by his martial arts practice, John began his healing arts journey with massage therapy, graduating from the Swedish Institute in 1998.
After several years of practice, John enrolled in acupuncture school, earning his degree in 2005. Over the years, he has operated clinics in Manhattan and Madison while also teaching and supervising at various massage schools.
In 2025, John moved back to upstate New York, where his acupuncture practice focuses on orthopedic, neurological, and sports-related issues. His bodywork has also come full circle, blending elements of spiraling, twisting, and circular movement to create a more dynamic, 3-dimensional approach to healing. He’s developing what he believes is the next evolutionary step in manual therapy.
Outside of work, John enjoys exercise, cooking brunch, and unwinding with a good book in his hammock.
